Lombok & Gilis

Lombok & the Gilis are the perfect two-part escape: big, wild landscapes on the main island, then tiny, barefoot island life just offshore. Do Lombok for waterfalls, south-coast beaches, and that “we found the quieter Indonesia” feeling. Do the Gilis for turquoise swims, sunset bikes, and snorkels that start five minutes from your room.

Best Time
May to September for dry-season days, calmer crossings to the Gilis, and Rinjani trekking season

Fun Facts

✦ Mount Rinjani is Indonesia's second-highest volcano
✦ The Gili Islands have no motorized vehicles
✦ Has some of the best surf breaks in Southeast Asia
✦ Lombok’s south coast (around Kuta/Mandalika) is beach-hopping heaven — from calm bays to surf spots, all within short drives
✦ Bangsal Harbor is the classic gateway to the Gilis — quick boat rides, but seas can get choppy in wetter months
✦ Each Gili has its own vibe: Trawangan is lively, Meno is honeymoon-quiet, and Air is the sweet spot in between
✦ The Lombok + Gilis combo works best with a little buffer time — it’s the difference between relaxed island hopping and ferry-stress
